A St. Augustine couple has been charged with child neglect after investigators said they abused a 2-year-old boy in their care.
Terry and Elanna Glenn, 50 and 21, were arrested Wednesday. Elanna is the boy's biological mother, and Glenn is her husband but is not the boy's biological father.
The toddler and his 6-month-old brother have been removed from the home, according to the Department of Children and Families. Both were taken to a hospital to be checked out, and both are now in foster care and are doing better, DCF spokesman John Harrell said.
According to a police report, the couple failed to provide their son with "the care supervision and services necessary to maintain his physical and mental health, including, but not limited to, food, nutrition, clothing, shelter, supervision, medicine and mental services that a prudent person would consider essential for the well-being of the child."
Police said they met with the children's grandfather and aunt on Sept. 25. They said the Glenns live with the boys and a 16-year-old in the home. The relatives told police that when they went to pick up the boy and take him to Ormond Beach for a visit, they found he had several injuries that appeared to be burn marks. Elanna Glenn told them a clothes iron had fallen on the boy, according to the report.
Police went to the home, and Elanna Glenn told them, "I don't have to (expletive) tell you anything. (The boy) is a bad child. He spits in my face. He calls me (expletive) and drives me crazy," according to the report.
"If I wanted to kill him, I already would have," she told police, according to the report.
According to the police report, the boy had untreated burns on several parts of his body, including his back, indicating that the burns were deliberately inflicted and not the result of an accident.
