3 Good evening. Defense attorneys for 26-year-old Guy Heinze Jr... Were granted a new opening statement on the third day of trial ...because of key evidence never mentioned in their initial case. Heinze is charged with killing his father and seven others in August, 2009. Today in court...DNA analysts testified about crime scene evidence. Heinze Jr. faces 8 Counts of Malice Murder and one count of aggravated assault on a child. He faces the death penalty if convicted. Tim. 3 3 3 Today jurors heard DNA analysts say blood on shotgun, cell phone, a knife and even some of Heinze clothing were some from some of the victim's in this brutal attack. 3 SOT- Kristen Fripp/GBI Forensic Biologist " " It's a significant piece of testimony for the prosecution.The 16 gauge shotgun Guy Heinze Jr admitted to police he hid in the trunk of his Mercury Cougar that morning has blood stains belonging to one of the victims.Prosecutors also say Heinze had a blood stained cell phone in his car.Today a Forensic Biologists says the DNA matches Joe West, one of the 8 victim's who were murdered inside this mobile home at New Hope Plantation Mobile Home Park on August 29th,2009.-Guy Heinze Jr is accused of beating his friends and family members to death and severely injuring a child. Biologists confirmed blood found on Grey/black shorts Heinze was wearing matched three of the victim's: SOT Kristin Fripp "Michael Toler, Russell Toler Sr. And Chrissy Toler." Heinze had little reaction.But perhaps the defense strongest point made today -- Glynn County Police failure to follow-up on a tipster who gave police names of two people to question and warned the murderer could have been in a gang settling a debt. The defense asked Investigator Roderic Nohilly why police did not investigate the matter thoroughly.Nohilly says one of the individuals was in jail during the time of the murders and was previously associated with a gang.
