Thursday, December 26th. We hope you had a fantastic Christmas with friends and family. For some, though, it was a frustrating Christmas. While families no doubt tried not to let it get them down, thousands of them had missing presents thanks to what U-P-S calls a "backlog." Now, companies are trying to make up for it. Crystal Moyer is live at a U-P-S facility here in town. Crystal...this affects more than just U-P-S's business. 3 3 U-P-S SAYS IT WAS A COMBINATION OF BAD WEATHER AND A HIGH VOLUME OF PACKAGES - MORE THAN THEY PREDICTED. THEY PLEDGED TO REFUND SHIPPING COSTS AND PROVIDE 20-DOLLAR GIFT CARDS TO SOME SHOPPERS.FOR THEIR PART U-P-S SAID THE DELAYS ARE DUE TO A -- QUOTE -- "PERFECT STORM" OF PROBLEMS: WINTERY WEATHER IN PARTS OF THE COUNTRY, A SHORTENED SHOPPING SEASON BETWEEN THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS... AND A SURGE IN ONLINE SHOPPING.AN AMAZON SPOKESWOMAN TOLD THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE ORDERS WERE PROCESSED IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS DELIVERY áON THEIR ENDá.THE COMPANY NOW SAYS IT PLANS TO REVIEW THEIR SHIPPING PARTNERS' HOLIDAY PERFORMANCE.DESPITE THE GIFT DELAY, SOME SAID THIS TIME OF YEAR, IT'S ALL ABOUT PERSPECTIVE: "I'm glad it's Jesus' birthday though..." "There's really something to think about other than toys and stuff for Christmas." 3 U-P-S ISN'T THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS. FED-EX IS ALSO DELAYED.
