Flagler County deputies were investigating a fatal shooting Tuesday morning at a home on Covington Lane in Palm Coast.
Detectives said 30-year-old Stefanie Merrill was shot and killed by her 32-year-old husband, William Merrill, as he inspected a firearm inside their home.
The shooting was reported to the Sheriff's Office at 9:17 a.m. Investigators said the shooting is considered suspicious, and William Merrill was being questioned.
Detectives said she Merrill suffered one rifle shot to the chest area. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement's crime scene unit was on scene, as well as the state attorney's office's homicide unit out of St. Augustine.
Stefanie Merrill was the mother of two children, ages 3 and 6.
