Deputies in Clay County have arrested a teen who they said broke into a Jacksonville police officer's Orange Park home early Sunday.

Jarvis Guthrie, 18, is charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling with intent to commit battery.

According to an arrest report, Guthrie was being physically restrained by the homeowner, Officer Garret Osilka, in the foyer of the home when a deputy arrived.

Osilka said he didn't know the teen, according to the report.

He told deputies that he and his wife were asleep upstairs when he was awoken at about 3 a.m. by the sound of banging noises outside the home, according to the report. Osilka armed himself with a handgun and began checking inside the home for intruders. Once downstairs, he heard more banging noises from the front yard and then heard someone force his way into the front door, according to the report.

Deputies said Osilka didn't have his glasses, so he approached the man to try to identify him, and when he determined he didn't know him, the teen raised his hands and took an aggressive stance.

Osilka kicked Guthrie in his chest and struck him in the face with his hand while holding his handgun, according to the report. Guthrie started trying to push and strike Osilka, who then hit the teen several more times in the face and head, knocking him to the floor, according to the report.

Osilka held Guthrie down until the deputy arrived and arrested him.

Guthrie was taken to Orange Park Medical Center and was later booked into the Clay County Jail.
