In more local news - The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says a deputy was forced to shoot a stabbing suspect who threatened him with a knife. Investigators say Deputy Todd Boger - a 10 year veteran of the department - responded to the Southern Villas housing complex on Sunrise Boulevard around 3:30 this morning... after getting reports that a man had stabbed a woman. But when Boger went to find 43-year-old John DeSanto... things went from bad... to worse. TRACK INVESTIGATOR SAuthorities say a St.Johns County SHERIFF'S deputy was forced to open fire here on SHOOT this man, John Vincent DeSanto, who they say stabbed a woman... AFTER he knew when she opened the door for him. THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS DESANTO BECAME COMBATIVE WITH THE DEPUTY... WHEN HE CONFRONTED HIM.Deputies say the officer responding to the 911 call went to find DeSanto...who they say, then confronted him. 164501 the individual stood up, had a large military style knife in his hand. the deputy advised him numerous times to drop that knife. he did not in fact do that and instead raised it up over his head in a threatening manner TRACK Deputies say, that officer had no choice but to shoot DeSanto, who was then taken to the hospital by air ambulance. 164538 but we're allowed to defend ourselves against someone attacking us and we're also allowed to defend other individuals if they're being attacked.TRACK According to court records, Desanto has a long criminal history, including arrests for aggravated battery, resisting an officer, and drug possession. As authorities continue their investigation, the people who live here are thankful that both the deputy and the stabbing victim are okay.
