The brother of a man accused of killing his girlfriend said Facebook posts may have lead to the deadly shooting.

Police said Calvin Wright shot and killed his girlfriend on Thanksgiving day and turned himself in Friday morning.

Wright appeared in court Saturday morning to face charges in Rolisha Thomas' death. The judge ordered Wright be held on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon without bond.

Police were called to the scene at West 2nd Street and Almeda Street just after noon Thursday. Police told Channel 4 when they arrived they found Rolisha Thomas dead in the street from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said Wright was arguing with 24-year-old Thomas because she was trying to end their relationship.

Wright's brother, Tim Griffin, said Thomas may have posted derogatory comments about Wright on her Facebook page, which may have angered Wright. Police have not confirmed if this is part of their investigation.

Rolisha Thomas Wright, 24, shot and killed Thomas in front of Thomas' mother and then fled, according to police.

"We just want that man taken off the streets," the victim's mother, Theresa Thomas, told Channel 4's Vic Micolucci Thursday afternoon. "He shot my daughter for her own cell phone. She asked him for her phone and he just pulled a gun out and shot her. Then he started shooting at me and the rest of my kids. I could still see her falling down, and I couldn't even go out there because he was shooting at me too. He just killed my child for no reason."

Attempts to reach Thomas's family members Friday after the arrest was made were unsuccessful as no one was home at their house.

Police said Wright was recently released from prison in April after serving time on burglary charges.
