DELTONA, Fla. -

Volusia County deputies are searching for the driver who they say hit a 5-year-old boy after losing control of his vehicle in a road rage incident with another driver.

Deputies said that two vehicles were in a road rage confrontation just after noon on Wednesday on E. Normandy Boulevard, throwing things out of the window at the other cars and weaving in and out of traffic.

The driver of one car then lost control of his vehicle, striking a bench near the intersection of Normandy Drive and East Hancock Drive where the 5-year-old boy was waiting with his father, sister and another man for a bus. The driver then drove away.

The injured 5-year-old boy was flown to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach to be treated for a broken femur and several abrasions.

No one else was injured.

The suspected car was described as a late 1990s or early 200s gold, four-door Chrysler Sebring with heavy damage to the passenger side. The driver is described as a light-skinned Hispanic man in his early 20s with a shaved head, according to deputies.

Deputies are also looking for the other car involved to get information on the incident, described as a green pickup truck with a camper top and several veterans stickers on the back and a memorial sticker on it that says “Cody Kuffner, 1988 – 2008.”
