Driver, students hurt in school bus crash
A man and two students were taken to hospitals after being injured in a two-car crash involving an Alachua County school bus Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
State troopers said 40-year-old Clint Calton, of Hawthorne, was driving his Jeep Cherokee west on State Road 24 in the right lane approaching the intersection of Southwest 63rd Boulevard just before 9 a.m.
Troopers said a school bus loaded with 51 students was stopped in traffic facing west in the right lane when Calton failed to notice the bus stopped and crashed into the rear of it.
Calton was taken to North Florida Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. All of the children on the bus were taken to Kanapaha Middle School, and two students were later taken to Shands Medical Center.
Calton was charged with careless driving.
