3 It's called a very complex investigation - and it's far from over. We're learning MORE information about two convicted murderers in Florida - who walked out of prison because of forged court documents. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced charges for SIX people involved in the case. Channel 4's Chris Parenteau is joining us live. Chris, how were investigators able to track everyone down? 3 3 They have spent the last two months since the two convicted murders were recaptured going through cell phone records, printers, prison computers and more trying to figure out who created the documents that allowed these men to be wrongly released. 3 00-1017-23Joseph Jenkins was let out of prison on September 27th, Charles Walker got out of the same prison on October 8th using almost the same forged documents. The documents were similar to those used by a former Pinellas County inmate who used similar paperwork to escape in 2009.SOT 1:24 Once the fradulent paperwork was completed, it was submitted to the clerk's office and filed as an order of the clerk. Once the clerk's accepted the orders they submitted it as sentence modification.VO The documents were taken to the Orange County clerk's office by a former inmate, WIllie Slater, who was also arrested. The state is hoping to begin using a secure e-system in early 2014 to submit court orders, trying to avoid similar situations from happening again and also considering harsher penalties for creating phony court documents.SOT 2:08 These arrests show progress in this case and we definitely have a more clear understanding of the fraud. But it's important that you understand that this is still an active investigationVO Charges for the 6 people arrested so far in this case include principle to escape, conspiracy to commit escape, escape, forgery, uttering a forgery, conspiracy, and harboring a fugitive. 3 FDLE says it's still following some leads in this case and could have more arrests. A $20,000 reward is being offered for anyone that helps in the investigation.
