Family Adjusts To Life Without Father
Haitian Man Shot, Killed At Baymeadows McDonald's In February
The mother of five children whose father was shot and killed in a McDonald's parking lot on Baymeadows Road in February said life for their family is just a work in progress right now.
Raynold Orelus, who was killed while trying to help his boss from being robbed, lived in Jacksonville with his wife and young child.
His other four children lived in Haiti and hadn't seen their father in years, but through the help of a local attorney, they were able to come to Jacksonville to see their dad buried and be with their mother.

Nesta Walker, 28, is charged in Orelus' killing. His trial is set to begin later this summer.
Months after Orelus' death, the family said it is still trying to adjust to life without their husband and father.
Miraclide Orelus, the children's mother, said through a translator that things aren't the way they're supposed to be without her husband, Raynold. She said she's not working, which is just another challenge the family is facing.
The children have been attending school and are trying to learn English, but their mother said the transition hasn't been easy.
"When the kids come, they have nothing, social security or nothing," Miraclide said through the translator. "The only thing they really do is going to school, and they only stay in one room. It's like six of them."
Miraclide said that slowly but surely, her children are adjusting and making friends. She said she hopes they'll be able to make a life for themselves in Florida because she said they don't have anything to go back to in Haiti.
"They have no place to stay," Miraclide said through the translator. "The house is broke. They'll be sleeping outside."
The family is working with a local attorney to try to keep the children in the U.S. as long as they can.
