JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A 17-year-old is fighting for his life tonight after his family said he was brutally beaten with a baseball bat.

Police were investigating after an argument between young men escalated out of control Sunday night, leaving William Foley with life-threatening injuries.

Foley's family said he is in a medically-induced coma after being beaten with the bat.

Homicide detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to the scene at the Oceanway Village Mobile Home Park on Starratt Road on Monday.

Police said Foley's friends brought him to a trailer at a mobile home park after he suffered head injuries.

The family said the incident started as an argument, then Foley's truck was vandalized and the windshield was smashed.

When Foley confronted the man who vandalized his car, he was attacked with a bat and hit several times, including in the head, the family told Channel 4.

Foley's mother, Heather Foley, said the family won't celebrate Thanksgiving until her son comes home.

"It puts a hold on everything," she said. "We're not going to celebrate it without him here. When he comes home, whether it's the middle of December or whatever, then we'll have our Thanksgiving and be thankful he's with us."

Foley is in Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center in stable condition. He has a fractured skull and a ruptured spleen.

Police said no arrests have been made, but the incident remains under investigation.
