Father of Jordan Davis speaks out about advocacy after his son's death
Federation of Families of NE Florida event features video dedication to Jordan
Ron Davis, father of slain 17-year-old Jordan Davis, is using his family’s tragedy to become an advocate for all children.
An event Friday evening for the Federation of Families of Northeast Florida featured a video dedication to Jordan Davis and an opportunity for Ron Davis to share how his life of advocacy began after his son’s death.
The group is designed to help families of children with mental-health issues.
“There are kids here that have nowhere to turn, nowhere to go and through Jordan, he resides in me, he has pushed me to do things I never thought I'd be able to do, and one thing is help the children,” said Davis.
Davis’ major motivation is to increase the laws protecting children.
“There are laws on the books that don't benefit the children and I'm going to help change them by bringing attention to it,” said Davis.
Federation of Families of Northeast Florida member Vickie Waytowich believes Davis is a great example of a parent becoming a strong advocate for their own child.
“We wanted someone to be able to come in and share their own story to show how to become an agent of change and advocate for your own child,” said Waytowich.
