The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office arrested a 54-year-old Jacksonville man Wednesday on a charge of sexual assault on a 11-year-old runaway girl that occurred in Port Charlotte last September.

Christopher James Roberts was arrested Wednesday on a charge of sexual battery on a child. His son, Christopher Maurice Roberts, 37, of Fleming Island, was arrested in December after investigators said he had sex twice with the same girl.

According to a news release, the victim was staying in a Fort Myers youth shelter and granted a weekend home visit. When she got home, she ran away.  When she was located and returned to the shelter, she told a counselor about the sex by two men in an unknown Port Charlotte home.

She told investigators she was approached by a man in a custom painted purple four-door car who asked if she needed a ride. During the ride, she said he began discussing different sexually related topics, including sexual intercourse and oral sex.

The girl said the man drove her to an unknown home in Port Charlotte and he asked her to perform oral sex on him. Then the older man asked her to perform oral sex on him, too. She said the son then took her into a bedroom, where they had sexual intercourse.

The girl gave detailed descriptions of the two men. She also said she did not offer any resistance as she was in fear for her life if she had resisted.

On Sept. 24, a North Port Police check revealed a traffic stop was made on a custom painted purple 2006 Dodge Charger. The driver was Christopher Maurice Roberts and the passenger was his father, Christopher James Roberts. Their photos were put in a photo lineup and the girl positively identified both men, investigators said.
