A scathing report is out today on the Penn State sex abuse case.
It's the culmination of hundreds of interviews and review of millions of controversial emails pertaining to who knew what and when about allegations that former football coach Jerry Sandusky was sexually abusing boys.
Elizabeth Corridan breaks down the findings.
--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS --
IT'S ANOTHER BLOW TO PENN STATE UNIVERSITY.
THE FINDINGS OF THE FREEH REPORT, AN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION INTO HOW THE SCHOOL HANDLED ALLEGATIONS OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE BY FORMER ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH JERRY SANDUSKY WENT PUBLIC THURSDAY.
Our most saddening and sobering finding is the total disregard for the safety and
welfare of Sandusky's child victims by the most senior leaders at Penn State. The most
powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children
who Sandusky victimized.
THE REPORT SINGLES OUT FORMER UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT GRAHAM SPANIER.
FORMER VICE PRESIDENT GARY SCHULTZ.
FORMER HEAD FOOTBALL COACH JOE PATERNO.
AND FORMER ATHLETIC DIRECTOR TIM CURLEY.
IT READS: "These men concealed Sandusky's activities from the board of trustees, the university community and authorities. They exhibited a striking lack of empathy for Sandusky's victims by failing to inquire as to their safety and well-being,"
ALONG WITH IDENTIFYING WHERE THE UNIVERSITY WENT WRONG, THE FREEH REPORT MAKES MORE THAN 100 RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW THE SCHOOL CAN PREVENT A SIMILAR TRAGEDY FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.
THE PENN STATE COMMUNITY IS LOOKING FORWARD TO MOVING BEYOND THE SCANDAL
WE NEVER WANTED TO LET THIS DEFINE US AND WE WILL NEVER LET THE ACTIONS OF THESE INDIVIDUALS DEFINE US.
LAST MONTH, SANDUSKY WAS CONVICTED ON DOZENS OF CHARGES THAT HE SEXUALLY ABUSED BOYS OVER A 15 YEAR PERIOD.
HE'S IN JAIL AWAITING SENTENCING.
I'M ELIZABETH CORRIDAN REPORTING.

The Penn State Board of Trustees will respond to the report at a press conference later this afternoon.
The N-C-A-A released a statement saying it is reviewing the findings.
The organization went on to say that it expects full cooperation from Penn State as it continues its own examination into the school's handling of the sex abuse scandal.
