About a hundred volunteers with the Red Cross turned out Saturday in Springfield as part of the National Day of Service.
From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., volunteers went door to door in parts of Springfield to spread the word about fire prevention.

Jim Mackie, chapter director of Hope Worldwide says, "Today is part of nation-wide campaign with American Red Cross get out message about fire prevention in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King -- a peace initiative -- and through peace tiles other projects and training."
The volunteers also built a 10-by-10 peace plaque.
