Firefighters extinguish 'extremely dangerous' fire
Fire burns manufacturing plant in St. Augustine
St. Johns County firefighters put out an industrial fire that they say could have been "extremely dangerous" Saturday afternoon.
It happened at Hydro-Aluminum on 200 Riviera Blvd. Firefighters said they could see the smoke from several miles away.
They said there were chemicals in the building so everyone was evacuated.
"(Crews) made a quick fire attack using foam," said St. Johns County Fire Rescue spokesman Matthew Sara. "The fire was extinguished in approximately 30 minutes. These actions quickly mitigated a fire which could have been an extremely dangerous situation."
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but investigators believe a piece of equipment was overfilled with molten aluminum.
No one was hurt.
