Hundreds of Gov. Rick Scott's appointees are in limbo.
The Florida Legislature ended its regular session without confirming top positions across state government.
Those who were not confirmed included the heads of the state's prisons agency and the agency that oversees elections, as well as members of state boards that run universities and colleges. The Senate also refused to confirm four members of the State Board of Education.
Under state law, they must leave their posts by April 23 unless Scott reappoints them by then.
If the Senate refuses to confirm the appointees a second time, they must leave their job.
Records show that the Senate during the regular session only confirmed eight of Scott's recent appointments, including Secretary of Transportation Ananth Prasad.
