Fla. highway safety campaign aims at young drivers
A group focused on programs that combat drunken driving is aiming a new highway safety campaign at young drivers.
The "Be Ready for the Road Ahead" campaign announced Wednesday in Tallahassee will feature billboard space donated by members of the Florida Outdoor Advertising Association.
The Florida Association of DUI Programs is sponsoring the effort to make young motorists more aware of driving hazards.
One of those dangers is impaired driving. The group notes teens are at greater risk of alcohol-related crashes than other age groups although they are below the minimum drinking age. Drugs are another hazard.
The campaign also is targeting distracted driving such as texting, cell phone use, eating and grooming behind the wheel.
Young drivers, as well, are being urged to learn the rules of the road.
