FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. -

A Flagler County deputy responding to a burglary in progress call Thursday evening was struck by a car at an intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said Deputy Darrell Butler, 26, was heading west on Palm Coast Parkway about 6:40 p.m. and had his lights activated.

Troopers said the deputy stopped for a red light at Belle Terre Parkway before proceeding through the intersection. They said the right side of the patrol car was struck by the front of 80-year-old William Venne's car as Venne traveled south on Belle Terre. Troopers said he had a green light.

Both men were taken to Florida Hospital Flagler.

Troopers said charges are pending.
