TRACK Mike Rast shares with us the moments when he realized his 2006 F-250 truck was stolen right out of his apartment complex. He says after calling police, he found out he wasn't alone.54:49--55:03 "He asked me to look at his computer screen and at that moment, when he was inputting the data from my stolen truck, he showed me where officers had just sent him alerts to additional, identical trucks that had just been stolen." TRACK It's no wonder! According to the Highway Loss Data Institute, the F-250 has replaced the Cadillac Escalade as the number one vehicle of choice for car thieves! 09:57--10:01 "It gets a high resale value in the black market." TRACK Our crime expert Ken Jefferson says one of the main reasons why bad guys want this truck is because of the parts. He says they'll steal the truck, chop it, then move it to Mexico. 10:43-- "They'll ship the parts over, they'll take the tires, they'll take the parts of the engine, parts of the body. They'll just strip it all the way down and just chop it." "One of the great ways to protect your truck from thieves is to invest in a rocker switch. It costs about 80 bucks and they are installed here under the dashboard. So when you turn your truck off, the flip the switch on...and there's no way the truck will start." TRUCK Ken Jefferson says never underestimate the power of wheel locks ...or a Lojack. 06:32--06:43 "It works like a satellite works. Whatever movement it does, it gives off a certain area of where it is. It doesn't give an exact location, but it can get very, very close." TRACK For Mike Rast, his hope is to spread the word and keep this from happening to anyone else. 59:17--59:23 "Just be very aware that this is.going on and it's continuing to go on." 3 Ashley, going back to Mr. Rast, the man whose truck was recently stolen, is there any hope of getting it back?
