A former Duval County school teacher pleaded guilty Thursday to having sex with a 16-year-old girl.
Leonard Hoffman was subsequently sentenced to one year in jail and eight years of sex offender probation.
Hoffman was arrested in March on two counts of unlawful sexual activity and intercourse with certain minors.
Prosecutors said evidence showed that Hoffman, then a teacher at Paxon Middle School, had sex with the girl in September 2011.
"Today's sentence protects the victim from having to testify about those events in front of a jury," said Assistant State Attorney Erin Perry. "It also makes the defendant a sexual offender who will be under supervision for nine years."
