Free "Protecting Your Children" Seminar
Published On: Oct 14 2011 02:54:24 PM EDT Updated On: Feb 06 2010 08:07:32 AM ESTEmmy award-winning investigative reporter, Ken Wooden will be the guest speaker at the ?Protecting Our Children? seminar hosted by First Baptist Church of Orange Park (1140 Kingsley Ave.) on March 6 from 6-8pm. Featured on Good Morning America, The Early Show, Oprah, TODAY and CNN, Ken Wooden?s riveting seminar is based on his 20 years of investigative reporting, including his interview with convicted child rapists, abductors and murderers. Wooden will discuss the 10 most common ?lures? that predators use to seduce a child.
In light of the horrific abduction and murder of seven-year-old Somer Thompson last October in Orange Park, First Baptist decided to be pro-active in finding ways to help families in the community.
?We offer this free seminar not only for parents in Orange Park but also encourage community leaders, school personnel, local media, crime enforcement and all government representatives in Clay, Duval and St. Johns counties to attend,? said Pastor David Tarkington. ?We have contacted State Representatives Jennifer Carroll (District 13) & Michael Weinstein (District 19); State Senator Stephen Wise (Distict 5); US House Representative Ander Crenshaw (4th Congressional District), Cliff Stearns (6th Congressional District), Corrine Brown (3rd Congressional District); and US Senators Bill Nelson & George Lemieux and the news media. We want our children safe in northeast Florida.? The Clay County Sheriff?s Office is supporting the event and plans to have personnel to attend.
The two-hour seminar will include: ? Tips for Lure-Proofing Your Child ? Predator Lures Used on College Campuses & Military Bases ? How a Molester Seduces a Child ? Explaining the Concept of Law to Children ? A Question & Answer Session
Attendees at the free seminar may purchase a Child Lures Family Guide for $5. Because of the nature of the event, parents are discouraged from bringing their children. Childcare will not be available. For more information, call the church at (904) 264-2351 or visit www.opfirst.org
