FRUIT COVE, Fla. -

A week after a family of four loses everything in a fire, neighbors in Fruit Cove rally together and lend a helping hand.

The Ranson family home on Bell Branch Lane caught fire last weekend.

Investigators believe it was the result of an electrical fire in the attic.

Tom Rowand, who has lived across the street from the Ransons for seven years, said it only took 30 minutes for the fire to burn through everything the family owned.

Rowand said he is close friends with the family and that he wanted to help after the fire.

"Seeing them, and how they held up, it's really been amazing. They've held together as good as anyone can expect in such tragic situations," said Rowand.

Rowand said the family didn't ask for any help, but his wife and son decided to host a fundraiser anyway.

On Saturday, Rowand said they had already collected $1,500.

"I went door to door to raise money. I offered him to stay with me and I've just offered support. I've actually had messages with him, text messages with him to make sure he's alright," said Caleb Daly, a friend of the Ranson's son.

The neighborhood hopes to raise a $4,000 - $5,000 in both money and gift certificates to give to the Ranson family.
