An outpouring of support for a local Navy family at a dinner fundraiser to help pay for a service dog for 6-year-old Ryan Benedict, who is autistic.
More than 100 people bought tickets at a fundraiser Saturday at an Applebee's restaurant, raising more than $500. The money will go toward the care for a Golden Retriever, Chatham.
The Benedict family had already raised the $8,000 needed to get the dog, thanks to the group "Project Chance."
The family says Chatham will help Ryan relax, provide emotional support and teach him responsibility.
