A Duval County jury on Saturday afternoon found Curtis Antonio Way guilty of second-degree murder in the strangulation death of his wife in December 2006.
Prosecutors say Way, 50, strangled his wife, Linda, to death while they were moving out of their home on Flechette Avenue. Evidence showed after Way and his wife had an argument about finances, he held her down on the floor, with his hands around her neck, until she lost consciousness and died. Way then went to a neighbor’s home, called 911, and claimed he acted in self-defense.
“We are pleased with the jury’s verdict,” said Assistant State Attorney Dan Skinner. Hopefully, this will give the victim’s family some closure, because this case has been pending for more than five years."
As a habitual felony offender and prison release reoffender, Way faces up to life in prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for the week of November 13.
