More than 20 different health providers were at Saturday's health fair event to try to showcase their services and provide some awareness to the community to try to take charge of their health.
"We are basically putting into contact a lot of the medical services in our community that a lot of people may not be aware is there," said Dr. Rene Pulido of Emed Primary Care.
"It's very beneficial for the community to be informed," said Mike Griffiths of Any Lab Test Now. "Now they know what kind of choices to make and what's out there."
The Northeast Florida Hispanic Medical Association put on the five-hour "Es mi vida, es mi salud" or "It's my life, it's my health" event with on-site testing for a variety of health issues. The even and services were free of charge.
"An ounce of prevention is worth 10 pounds of treatment," said Pulido. "It just really helps the people to know if they are diabetic or not, or if they have high cholesterol or not, or if they have some kind of infectious disease."
Turnout for the event was high early in the day. There was a bounce house for kids, food and plenty of fliers for people to take with them.
Pulido said that he was honored to be able to put on this event.
"To be able to give back to the Jacksonville community and the Hispanic community that has done so much for me is nothing short of a miracle," said Pulido.
