Jaguar DE delivers doughnuts to school
Students raised $5K for Dreams Come True
It's a reward that's tough to beat -- doughnuts delivered to school by a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Defensive end Austen Lane delivered the goodies to students at Lakeside Junior High School in Orange Park on Tuesday morning.
The school had raised $5,000 for Dreams Come True, a local nonprofit that helps fulfill dreams of children battling life-threatening illnesses.
The three classes that raised the most money got to enjoy the doughnuts and a little time with the pro football player.
"I remember being a kid, too, and having role models and just dreaming about hanging out with those role models," Lane said. "Anything I can do to give back to the community, hang out with kids, just try to show them the way a little bit, I'm glad to do it."
A seventh-grade student whose sister had previously been helped by Dreams Come True came up with the idea for the school-wide fundraiser.
The school raised the money in less than four months.
