A group of kayakers were forced to rescue one of their own when high winds and a strong tide swept them out to sea Saturday in the St. Augustine inlet.
St. Johns County Fire and Rescue spokesman, Jeremy Robshaw, said a group of 11 kayakers were in the inlet when one of them capsized. Three others jumped in to help the distressed member but were pushed out into the Atlantic Ocean by a rough outgoing tide.
A distress call was made but the group was able to reach the shore before rescuers could attempt a rescue.
All of the kayakers were wearing life-jackets.
Robshaw warned the conditions were not good for boaters or swimmers.
