Lake City police are searching for a gunman who shot a 21-year-old man about 10:30 p.m. Monday.

The victim, Joseph Wellington, was taken to Lake Shore Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Wellington was walking home in the area of the overpass of Northwest Main Boulevard when he heard several gunshots and took off running. As he was running, he began feeling pain and numbness in his leg and discovered he was shot.

Wellington flagged down a passing car and was given a ride to the emergency room, police said.

They said Wellington was unable to provide the street he was walking on or any vehicle or suspect information. Officers searched several areas underneath the overpass and were unable to locate a crime scene.
