Local Civic Leader Dies

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Civic leader Frederick Schultz, known for his role with the Schultz Center For Teaching And Leadership and other positions, has died.

Schultz, a Jacksonville native, passed away at the age of 80 following a battle with cancer.

He was the chairman emeritus of the Schultz Center, which was founded in 2002. The center trains teachers and school leaders around northeast Florida.

Schultz graduated from The Bolles School, before going to Princeton University and the University of Florida Law School. He also served in the Army during the Korean War, and was awarded the Bronze Star.

After his military service, Schultz worked for Barnett Bank, before opening his own business in the financial industry.

Schultz was a member of the Florida House from 1963 to 1970, serving as speaker for the last two years. He also served in several other educational organizations, and was a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.
