Local veteran honored by president at White House
A local veteran was honored by President Barack Obama at the White House with the nation's second-highest honor for a civilian.
Adam Burke was one of 18 people to receive the Presidential Citizens Medal on Friday morning. The medal recognizes Americans for contributions to public service.
The president said citizenship binds the nation together and captures Americans' belief in something bigger than themselves.
Burke, who spent nine years in the Army, suffered a brain injury while in Iraq. After he came home, he turned his family's farm into Veterans Farm, giving other wounded warriors a chance to heal and work.
Burke will appear on Channel 4's The Morning Show on Monday during the 7 a.m. hour.
