Some members of Macon's city council are calling for all of the city's police officers to be equipped with Tasers.
A city council committee discussed the idea Monday, less than a month after the Dec. 21 fatal shooting by police of an unarmed man at a Kroger store.
The Telegraph reports that the shooting has drawn controversy in the central Georgia city.
Police Capt. Jimmy Barbee said no one on Macon's police force carries a Taser unless they are on the SWAT - or Special Weapons and Tactics -- team. There are 17 members of that team, and Barbee said "that's all the Tasers we have."
Councilman Henry Gibson, a retired police captain, questioned why Tasers haven't been put in the police department's budget.
