Man, 22, dead in Palatka shooting
Man claims he shot attempted robber
A Palatka man said he shot and killed a man who was trying to rob his home early Saturday morning, according to the Palatka Police Department.
First responders found 22-year-old Ricky Harper, of St. Augustine, dead around 12:10 a.m. Saturday at Florida Avenue and Fern Street in Palatka after getting a shots fired call, according to Assistant Chief James Griffith.
Investigators said Harper suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. Detectives believe the shooting started at a home on Florida Avenue and said evidence appears to show that more than one gun was used.
Police were looking for 26-year-old William Session, who lived at the address where the shooting occurred.
Police said Session went to them hours after the shooting, and said he fled because he was being robbed by two masked men. He said they shot at him and he shot back, striking one of them. Session said he did not know who the men were.
Session was not under arrest Saturday evening.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Sgt. Jason Shaw at 386-329-0801 or the tip line at 386-329-0170.
