Fatal wreck on U.S. 1 in Hillard
NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -

A 27-year-old Hilliard man was killed in a crash with a log truck on U.S. Highway 1 in Nassau County on Friday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Ryan Garrett was driving southbound just south of Andrews Road in the right lane when his pickup truck rear-ended the log trailer just after 5 a.m.

Troopers said Garrett was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 67-year-old driver of the log truck was unhurt.

Garrett was not wearing a seat belt.

Troopers said blood alcohol content results for Garrett are pending.

The outside southbound lane of US 1 was closed while officers cleared the crash scene.
