JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A 28-year-old Jacksonville man was arrested Thursday and indicted by a federal grand jury with five counts of receiving child pornography and one count of transportation of child pornography.

If convicted on each of the counts, William Smith III faces five to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

This case was investigated by the FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kelly S. Karase and D. Rodney Brown.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
