JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A jury convicted a 33-year-old Jacksonville man Thursday afternoon of raping a 4-year-old girl in April 2010.

Jehu Ramirez was found guilty of sexual battery and lewd or lascivious molestation.

Evidence showed Ramirez raped and inappropriately touched the girl, whom his girlfriend was babysitting. Police were alerted to the abuse after the child reported to her mother on the same day that Ramirez had abused her.

"This verdict is in large part the result of the bravery of one little child and the excellent investigative work of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office," said Assistant State Attorney Erin Perry.

Ramirez faces a mandatory life sentence in prison. He will be sentenced during the week of Nov. 26.
