JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A 70-year-old man drowned and a 48-year-old man made it to shore safely after a boat capsized at Little Talbot Island State Park on the Northside on Tuesday afternoon, according to Jacksonville Fire-Rescue.

Charles Catanese, of Jacksonville, was pulled from the surf at 1:55 p.m., according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigators.

Catanese and Dexton Manor, of Atlantic Beach, were fishing just outside the surf off the state park when a large wave overturned their vessel, according to officials.

Both men were thrown into the water. Manor was able to grab a life vest from the water and swim to shore. Catanese was pulled from the surf and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 18-foot DuraCraft center console boat capsized about 200 yards offshore.

The FWC is continuing the investigation.
