Police announced this morning the arrest of a suspect in the killing of 27-year-old Tiffany Satchel, who was shot and killed last October as she strapped her 15-month-old child into a car seat in a Southside apartment complex.
Authorities said Jonathan Clowers turned himself to Fort Lauderdale authorities last week. Earlier this year investigators had named Clowers, Satchell's ex-boyfriend, the prime suspect her death.
Police said there was a history of domestic violence between the couple and Flowers had obtained a restraining order against Clowers.
Satchel's family told Channel 4 that she moved to Jacksonville from south Florida to try to get away from Clowers.
Her aunt said that Satchel, the mother of three children, was in her senior year at the University of North Florida was building a new life for herself.
Police said Clowers was brought to Jacksonville to face a charge of first-degree murder. His first appearance before a Duval County judge is scheduled for this afternoon.
Another Murder Suspect Caught Benjamin Washington, who was arrested last week near Brunswick, Ga., is being held on charges he killed 19-year-old Chad Henderson two weeks ago.
Henderson was shot to death May 11 at a party at the Mayport Trace Apartments. Police said a tip led to the arrest of Washington at a convenience store in Glynn County. He remains in a Georgia jail pending extradition to Jacksonville.
"On behalf of Sheriff Rutherford, I want to offer his condolences to the families of Tiffany Satchel and Chad Henderson as the respective cases move through the court proceedings," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Assistant Chief Rick Graham.
Channel 4's Jennifer Bauer is learning more about the case and the charges for reports on the local station beginning at 5 p.m.
