Woman Found Dead Of Blunt Force Trauma, Stab Wounds

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police have arrested a 39-year-old man in the killing of a 79-year-old woman found dead in her Southside home Wednesday.

Police said Vera Zadnepryanets died of blunt force trauma and stab wounds.

Vasiliy Babichev is charged with her murder.

Both are of Russian descent.

Police said Babichev called a witness Wednesday to say the woman was dead, but didn't call 911 until four hours later.

Officers said the woman's roommate found her just after 9 a.m.

Police said when they went to question the witness, they found bloody items that Babichev had left at another home.

The death marks the 10th homicide in Jacksonville in July.
