Single-Engine Plane Took Off From Herlong
A small plane that took off from Herlong Airport in Jacksonville crashed in Central Florida on Sunday, killing the one person on board, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office said it got a call from Jacksonville police around 4 p.m., for help in looking for a plane.
About two hours later, Civil Air Patrol spotted the charred wreckage of the single-engine Cessna 206 in a field off state Road 50, east of Interstate 75.
Investigators said the man who died in the crash was between 25 and 30 years old. His name was not released on Sunday. An autopsy will be performed.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and are expected to be on the scene Monday morning.
