The man accused of shooting Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Richard Collier 14 times in September pleaded not guilty Monday morning to a charge of attempted murder.

Tyrone Romaro Hartsfield stood silently as his public defender, Ann Finnell, entered not guilty pleas Monday to charges of attempt murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Collier, a former standout at Valdosta State, was shot 14 times on Sept. 2 and is paralyzed from the waist down. His left leg had to be amputated.

Collier was released from the hospital last month and continues his physical rehabilitation.

The team has paid tribute to Collier by keeping his locker intact in the area shared by offensive linemen.

Police have said Hartsfield, 32, wanted revenge after he and Collier fought in April outside a nightclub.

Hartsfield remains held without bond at the Duval County jail.

Hartsfield's next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 1.
