Man Robbed By Gunman Outside Mall
Published On: Oct 14 2011 02:08:47 PM EDT Updated On: Jul 18 2008 03:34:22 AM EDTJust moments after leaving his job at Regency Square Mall, a store manager said he found himself in the parking lot staring down the barrel of a gun.
The man asked not to be identified because he was badly shaken after being robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night.
"As usual, I go to my car to deposit my money, but last night it was like: I try to open the car and some dude ran up to me and right behind me and put a gun to my head," the victim said.
Trying to buy some time, the victim said he tried to get the robber to calm down. Instead, he said he ended up provoking the robber.
The victim said as he had a gun pointed at his face, his temple and in his back, a mall security officer was sitting in a patrol car just 100 feet away.
"He saw the security with their flashing lights and said, 'There's the security. I swear to God if you don't be quiet. I'm losing, losing anyway. If I shoot you and they get me, I'm losing and going to jail.' So, I was quiet and he threw me in the car and he took everything and he ran away," the victim said.
A witness told Channel 4 he was walking out of the mall with his girlfriend when he knew something was wrong.
"We proceeded to a gentleman that was -- looked like he was kind of shocked. At that point in time, my girlfriend heard him say, ''Please don't. Please don't.' As soon as he saw us, his face looked shocked ? and he yelled for us to please help," the witness said.
Immediately the man and his girlfriend called 911, knowing there was a sheriff's substation at the mall.
However, it was too late. The robber made off with thousands of dollars in cash from the store's profits and jumped into a getaway car that was waiting for him nearby.
Witnesses described the robber's getaway car as a white, two-door Honda Accord made between the years of 1997 and 1999. They said the car had no tag but did have a sticker of a fish on its trunk with a cross over its eye.
Anyone with information that could help police solve the armed robbery is asked to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
