JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A man convicted of murder and aggravated assault in which he posed as a pizza deliveryman, assaulted his sister-in-law with a hammer, then killed his estranged wife was sentenced to death Thursday.

A jury voted 12-0 in March to recommend the death penalty for 25-year-old Lesly Jean-Philippe.

Prosecutors said Jean-Philippe had been staying with family in Rhode Island in August 2009, trying to clear his head, when he decided to return to Jacksonville to confront his wife. Jean-Philippe went to 24-year-old Elkie Jean-Philippe's apartment, where he attacked her and her sister.

Medical examiners found a total of 52 cuts on his wife's body.

During the trial, a defense attorney argued the stabbing was not premeditated.
