Man arrested in St. Johns, Clay burglaries
Investigators searching for second suspect
A man who investigators said admitted to burglarizing 10 homes this month in St. Johns and Clay counties was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The first burglary was on Jan. 8 at a home in the 6400 block of Jack Wright Island Road in St. Johns County, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said. The home was ransacked, but nothing was stolen.
In another burglary that afternoon in the 1900 block of Village Glen Drive, the suspect stole money and jewelry, according to deputies.
Authorities said witnesses to the burglaries remembered seeing a red Honda del Sol with damage to the front of the car, including bungee cords holding the hood shut.
On Jan. 11, state troopers spotted the car in Clay County. Deputies took Cheyne Alexander Brand, 22, of Middleburg, into custody and found some of the jewelry that was stolen, deputies said. They said Brand admitted to the two St. Johns County burglaries, as well as eight others in Clay County.
Deputies said they have a second suspect who has not been arrested and are continuing their investigation.
