A 24-year-old Clay County man was arrested and charged with sex crimes on Thursday.

Brandon Stapler, of Orange City, was arrested at a motel off State Road 16 and Interstate 95 in St. Johns County shortly before noon.

St. Johns County deputies said Stapler began talking with an undercover detective who posed as the father of a 12-year-old girl last week.

The undercover detective offered his daughter for sex and they agreed to meet at the motel.

Stapler is charged with using a computer service to solicit a parent or guardian for sexual activity with a child and traveling to meet a minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity with the child.

Stapler is being held at the Clay County Jail without bail.

His first appearance is scheduled for Friday morning.
