A man crashed into a tractor-trailer and died after fleeing from a DeLand police officer trying to pull him over for a traffic stop on Wednesday.
Police said the officer tried to stop the man near the intersection of Bereford Avenue and Adelle Avenue in DeLand at around 3:40 p.m. The man sped away and crashed into the back of a parked tractor-trailer on Adelle Avenue, according to police.
Police said the man, who was driving a Ford Expedition, died on impact.
The officer involved has been placed on routine administrative leave, pending a Florida Highway Patrol investigation.
