A man was struck by a stray bullet on the 4th of July holiday.
74-year-old Richard Smeraldo was watching a firework show in Clearwater when a falling bullet hit the bill of his baseball cap and grazed his face.
The bullet traveled through the bill of Smeraldo's cap, into the bridge of his nose, out his right nostril, through the upper portion of his bottom lip and exited though his lower chin. It then hit a medal medallion on that Smeraldo had around his neck, bounced off of a friend and came to rest on a blanket.
Pinellas County Sheriff's officers said that Smeraldo thought he was struck by a rock but then saw the bullet sitting beside him.
Smeraldo was treated at a local hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
