A 50-year-old Arlington man died after being struck by a car Tuesday night while crossing a road in a motorized wheelchair, according to Jacksonville police.

Police said Craig Brantley was crossing the 6100 Merrill Road from south to north about 9:30 p.m. when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle.

Brantley was taken to a hospital with what were initially considered non-life-threatening injuries, but police said he died less than four hours later as a result of the crash.

Police said Brantley was not within a crosswalk when he was hit.  They did not release the name of the driver or other circumstances of the accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
