A man was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after crashing his moped into another vehicle.

St. Johns county deputies say it happened on State. Road A1A at A1A Beach Boulevard around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Michael David Pius was driving north on State Road A1A. That's when a driver on the southbound lane turned left onto the northbound lanes of A1A. According to reports, Pius rear-ended the other driver.

Pius was flown to Orange Park Medical center with serious injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol and the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office are continuing their investigation.
